Creators, designers, and caretakers of this historical and environmentallly friendly property.
H.K. and Raye Virginia Allen
Originally given to pioneers Moses and Barzilla Griffin as part of a Mexican Land Grant, circa 1827, this property was given to Raye Virginia McCreary by her parents, Irvin and Vivian McCreary, when she married H.K. Allen in 1951. Already having a home on the property which was built in 1882, the couple first lived in this house they called the 1882 House. This home was their home until the main house was built and they moved into it with their three children in 1961. The 1882 House then became the guest house while the Allens raised their three children in the main house.

They not only farmed the land and raised horses and Beefmaster cattle, their children fell into the practice of collecting stray animals and had as many as 13 dogs at one time. The Allens were partial to Great Danes, and added to their brood by welcoming puppies into their master bedroom. Having foresight and vision for the land and its welfare, they never mowed wildflowers, refused to allow hunting, and always fought for land rights and preservation of flora and fauna.

Their children want to continue this vision and have decided to share this landscape and the homes it sustains with others. Hoping others will take advantage of its beauty, respect its meaning, and share in the vision that the Allens and the McCrearys began, this homestead is being offered for others to enjoy.
